County Councillor Geoff Driver
Geoff is leader of Lancashire County Council. He was born in Burnley and brought up in the Rossendale Valley, where he was educated at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. He had a career in local government finance, starting as a trainee at Rawtenstall Borough Council and Eccles Borough Council, which at the time were among the district councils in Lancashire.
He went on to a number of roles including City Treasurer and Chamberlain at Plymouth City Council and Director of Finance at Kirklees Metropolitan Council (including Treasurer of West Yorkshire Fire and Civil Defence Authority), before ending his career as Town Clerk and Chief Executive at Preston City Council.
He entered politics on retirement and joined Preston City Council in 1999. He was elected to Lancashire County Council in May 2005 where he later became leader of the opposition group in 2008 and then leader of the county council following the elections in June 2009.
