Malcolm McVicar has been Vice-Chancellor at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) since 1998. Previously, he was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Portsmouth. He was educated at the Universities of Exeter and London, and his academic interests are in the areas of higher education policy and education management.
Malcolm is strongly committed to the economic development of Lancashire. Until 2011 he was Chair of Preston Vision, a private-public sector partnership focused on the city's economic regeneration. He has committed UCLan to support for the manufacturing sector in Lancashire and resolutely maintained and expanded the university’s provision in science and engineering.
