Key milestone for Whittingham Park housing development
Earlier this month City Deal representatives from Lancashire County Council and the Homes and Communities Agency attended the burial of a time capsule at Taylor Wimpey’s Whittingham Park development at Whittingham near Goosnargh.
Development at Whittingham was stalled for a number of years, due to the complexity and scale of the site, but the Homes and Communities Agency working together with Preston City Council and Taylor Wimpey have worked hard together to unpick some difficult development challenges, and it’s amazing to now see development finally taking shape on what will eventually be a 150 home development.
To date there have been 8 sales on site with the three-bedroom Gosford and Alton show homes proving popular with buyers and a four- bedroom show home due to open in spring.
Building good quality housing is an integral part of City Deal vision and will make the area a better place to live, which will in turn attract investment and job creation into the area. Whittingham Park and Taylor Wimpey are playing a critical part in delivering that vision which will eventually see 17,000 homes delivered across the City Deal area.
On the other side of Preston, another developer playing their part in the delivery of news homes for the City Deal is Story Homes. Story Homes are a successful regional house builder with sites in Cumbria, South West Scotland, North East England and Lancashire and they are continuing to expand into new areas including at Cottam Hall near Preston. Work has begun this month on a 283 home development of two, three, four and five bedroom properties which will be known as Cottam Waterside. Once completed, the full site will also include, retail, commercial and community facilities including children’s play areas, open space, landscaping and associated infrastructure such as footpaths, cycle routes and ecological mitigations measures.
Story Homes has pledged to contribute more than £1.6m towards local education will also be spending around £1.4m on funding other improvements in the local area, which includes; spending £390,000 on the Tom Benson Way Cycle Lane and making a £960,000 contribution to public transport and £60,000 to Guild Wheel improvements.
The development will also create a number of employment opportunities for local contractors, with positive knock on effects for the local supply chain and other local businesses and services.
